Sankara Eye Foundation, USA builds and supports free eye care hospitals in India to serve the poor and needy blind and give them eyesight totally free. It is currently supporting 12 Sankara Eye Hospitals and 14 partner hospitals in India- performing over 350,000 free eye surgeries per year. It has a goal of performing 1 million free eye surgeries per year by the year 2030. It operates on an unique self-sustaining model where the paid surgeries (by the people who can afford it) pay for the free surgeries- with 70 to 80 percent of the patients getting totally free eye care.
