About this Resource

Galicia Caravan No. 77 of the Order of Alhambra formed in Detroit, Michigan in 1949. It is one of the largest and oldest Alhambra Caravans in the U.S. It is the Order’s charitable mission; to assist the intellectually and developmentally disabled. Founded in 1904, members consider themselves a fraternal family bonded thru shared Catholic faith, Christian values and their common desire to assist the less fortunate. Galicia 77 hosts boat rides, zoo and circus outings, picnics, parties, dinner dances, etc. and provides scholarships to students pursuing careers teaching the cognitively impaired. "Alhambra Houses" provide housing for the intellectually disabled and St. Francis Camp on the Lake is a premier camp for children with special needs.
