FOCUS Detroit

Description

In Detroit the greatest social justice issue of our time is the education of children living in poverty. The steps taken in primary school are critical to the future success of disadvantaged children. Poverty can cause children to experience poor academic achievement, under resourced schools, food insecurity, poor nutrition, substandard housing, and lack of access to basic needs. Children cannot benefit from learning or program resources if they are hungry, cold, and don’t have the supplies they need to learn. FOCUS Detroit exists to empower these children to succeed in school by partnering with educators, parents, and community partners to provide resources such as after school programs, tutoring, clothing and food assistance.
