The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. is the nation's largest and oldest major war veterans organization. Founded in 1899, the congressionally-chartered VFW is comprised entirely of eligible veterans and military service members from the active, Guard and Reserve forces. LT Fred Lewis Kent, USN. LT Kent was killed in action November 24, 1943 when the USS Liscome Bay was lost to a Japanese submarine attack during Operation Galvanic, the Allied invasion of the Gilbert Islands. LT Kent was a resident of Poway, California.
