The Sheridan VA Medical Center started as Fort Mackenzie in 1898, though began its history caring for Veterans on June 22, 1922. That date marks when Veterans from WWI first arrived--it was believed that the peace and tranquility of the mountainside location would heal those who were experiencing post-war issues that were not understood at the time. Since then, the facility has continued to expand services for the mental health care of Veterans, while also growing the services in primary care and overall whole health. Additionally, telehealth expansion has provided access to specialty care not historically available, allowing a large spectrum of care. Veterans interested in enrolling are invited to call and speak with the enrollment office.
